Dr. Kevin Guerra of Benque Viejo dies of COVID-19; twin brother critical at the KHMH

By BBN Staff: Breaking Belize News (BBN) has confirmed with medical authorities that 33 year old Dr. Kevin Guerra of Benque Viejo del Carmen in the Cayo district died a short while ago at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) in Belize City.

Dr. Guerra had tested positive for COVID-19 and was in critical condition and on a ventilator at the KHMH. His twin brother Kenneth Guerra is also COVID-19 positive and currently on a ventilator at the KHMH.

Medical authorities in Belize had intended to try plasma treatment on the doctors and and as such are looking for donors who are A+ or AB(-/+), have tested positive for COVID-19 and have recovered from the virus. It was the hope that the donor’s blood would be used to transfer antibodies from a recovered COVID-19 patient to the doctors in an attempt to give them a fighting chance to recover from the virus.

Sadly, Dr. Kevin Guerra died and will not be able to receive the experimental plasma treatment in Belize.

Blood donors are still being sought in an attempt to try the plasma treatment on his twin brother Dr. Kenneth Guerra.

Doctor Kevin Guerra was trained as a medical doctor at the Latin American School of Medicine in Havana, Cuba.

BBN extends condolences to the family of Kevin Guerra and wishes his twin brother, Dr. Kenneth Guerra a speedy recovery.
