Prime Minister to declare countrywide State of Emergency

By BBN Staff: The Prime Minister of Belize, Dean Barrow issued a recorded statement minutes ago. PM Barrow informed the nation that the Ministry of Health is conducting an extensive mapping exercise in Belize City since the third confirmed patient with Covid-19 is in Belize city. PM Barrow says that the state of emergency will become effective on Wednesday at midnight. The State of Emergency will be implemented for 30 days.

In addition, there will be a curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

The public will also be advised to stay indoors and only come out if necessary.

“People will be advised to shelter in place even during daylight hours and only to come out as absolutely necessary for purpose of procuring supplies and doing such business and activities as are exigently required,” Barrow stated.

The Prime Minister assured the public that the essential services including grocery stores, supermarkets and financial institutions will remain open.
