One dead, one injured in Belize City tragedy

Posted: Wednesday, October 31, 2018. 6:30 am CST.

BBN Staff:  In the wee hours this morning a tragedy was recorded on Belize City’s southside.

Samuel August, an employee of the Belize City Council, allegedly drove a backhoe belonging to the council into three homes and several vehicles on Fabers road. The backhoe is now reportedly inoperable.

The tragedy took the lives of Louise Young and her 5-year- old grandson.

A 13-year-old minor was injured and is listed in a critical condition.

August, remains hospitalized in a stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH).

Information to BBN is that August finished his shift at 1 o’clock this morning and was supposed to have parked the backhoe at the council’s office for the cemetery department.

It is unclear what his intentions were, however, reports suggest that August intentionally ran the heavy machinery into the house to cause harm.
