University of Belize hosts historic virtual graduation

Posted: Sunday, October 25, 2020. 11:01 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Despite the many ills of the COVID-19 pandemic, the global outbreak of the virus managed to usher in an era of innovation that saw various sectors, particularly education, finding workarounds that were not a part of any short or medium-term plans. Rising to the occasion to honor students that have completed their courses of education, various schools conducted virtual graduations this year, the latest of which is the University of Belize (UB).

On Saturday UB hosted its 27th commencement ceremony, graduating a total of 1,192 students at varying rungs of the academic ladder at the virtual event. The event featured the graduation address, delivered by UB’s President, Professor Emeritus Clement Sankat; special guest speaker Ambassador H.E. Nestor Mendez, OAS Assistant Secretary-General; and a congratulatory message from Minister of Education, Partick Faber.

UB explained that the event represented its first-ever virtual graduation, its largest graduating class ever, and the first batch of students to emerge from its online education experience that came about due to the pandemic.

Breaking Belize News congratulates all the graduates and wishes them well in their future endeavors.
